Shamanism

June 22, 2017

During the darkness of the night modern humans have lost touch with the spirit world and non-physical realms. The shaman plays the role of an intermediary between these worlds and their inhabitants and the physical dimension we currently occupy. By losing access to these worlds we lose touch with our souls and our relationship with the macrocosm.

The shaman is able to travel into multiple dimensions and realities and bring back with them ideas and information that can benefit their community in healing and evolution. In order to travel to these worlds often sacraments are used which allow them to have access to higher states of consciousness, here the ego is left behind and the shaman becomes one with universe.

Through my various journeys using psychedelics such as magic mushrooms, LSD and salvia I have been given access to knowledge and information that had been previously hidden from me. These states of mind break down the filters which restrict our perceptions and allow us to view a more holistic version of reality. My awakening was the result of one of these such trips and many of the ideas which make up the basis of this book have come from these alternate dimensions. I have been in places where there has been a complete loss of ego and from here the connection that we all share can be seen so clearly.

As we head towards the day we are reconnected with these realms and as a result we undergo a spiritual transformation. So called psychedelics have played a key role in many indigenous cultures and allow these cultures to have direct connection with the universal mind and collective consciousness. These sacraments help us stay connected with life and each other in ways we have long forgotten.

During the night there has been a complete demonisation of these ‘drugs’ and as a result a great deal of fear and misunderstanding has surrounded them.

Psychedelics are illegal not because a loving government is concerned that you may jump out of a third story window. Psychedelics are illegal because they dissolve opinion structures and culturally laid down models of behaviour and information processing. They open you up to the possibility that everything you know is wrong.

– Terence McKenna

When you undergo a psychedelic voyage you begin to see much of what we have been taught about life and reality is inaccurate. This leads you to begin to question your reality and seek different answers that fit in with your new found perspective. Life can be perceived as One, you come to know that humanity is not the only life 'out there' and certainly not the most intelligent, as was said by Hamlet; -

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,

Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

There is far more to our world than meets the eye and a psychedelic experience shows you this first-hand in a way that must be felt to be realised. These substances do for our minds what telescopes and microscopes can do for our eyes. They allow us to see more deeply and by doing so finding whole new worlds as great as universes. By exploring these worlds, we can find new solutions to old problems. We can see the underlying unity of ALL things joined together by the single energy we are all comprised of. We may be different but the energy that gives rise to us springs forth from one single source that is infinite.

“The lamps are different, but the Light is the same. One matter, one energy, one Light, one Light-mind, endlessly emanating all things.” Rumi

Psychedelics can push you far out of your comfort zone and that is why they are such great tools for growth. You take more than you can handle but in doing so you are able to handle more. They allow you to find purpose and therefore comfort in the nature of duality and the great suffering in Life. Yet with these strong mind alerting substances great respect and caution should be paid. These are not toys and unless one is in the right set and setting they should be avoided. People should pay attention particularly when less experienced to have a trip sitter or guide present with them.

These are tools of the Shaman and allow them to navigate these worlds through their minds and bodies. The Shaman is a specialist at speaking the language of the entities which inhabit these realms which can be communicated with in languages very different to normal human verbal conversation. In my own experience I usually get downloads of information in the weeks and months after my “trip”, what I come to understand on a trip mentally I then have to process and translate into actual words. You are attempting to explain in language that which is beyond words.

Here is a great description of how the psychedelic experience can take you to a place where the filters of your mind have been removed, and laid before you is your naked perception of reality that is completely jaw droppingly beautiful. Here you are looking at a visual paradise that is rich and alive, and completely captivating.

“In ordinary perception, the senses send an overwhelming flood of information to the brain, which the brain then filters down to a trickle it can manage for the purpose of survival in a highly competitive world. Man has become so rational, so utilitarian, that the trickle becomes most pale and thin. It is efficient, for mere survival, but it screens out the most wondrous parts of man's potential experience without his even knowing it. We're shut off from our own world. Primitive man once experienced the rich and sparkling flood of the senses fully. Children experience it for a few months-until "normal" training, conditioning, close the doors on this other world, usually for good. Somehow, the drugs opened these ancient doors. And through them modern man may at last go, and rediscover his divine birthright...”

― Tom Wolfe

During a heavy trip time dilation may be so strong that the trip may feel longer than your entire life, this takes a strong mind to ride out. When you lose all sense of time life feels eternal, and you do not know how long you have been there like that, or how long you will stay like that, you just exist stranded in eternity. It's like you have been born there in that moment. You can have no idea of your name, your species, your planet, your language, your life, anything that you now know is gone. You can experience a so called death of the ego, yet in dying you realise your spiritual self that is eternal. These strong experiences lead to a rebirth into our spiritual selves. This is why they should be revered and treated with the respect they deserve.

When you have experienced ego death, you realise that you cannot truly die and that all the bad stuff in life happens to the physical body which you are a part of, but which is not truly you. You see the un-i+ty of the polarities and see in life the opposites are the same, because without one the other could not exist. In the eternal void there is only one being experiencing everything. When you have felt this union at this deep level fear turns to love, darkness turns to light, and despair turns to joy.

To be a shaman you must experience great terror, fear and suffering, and despite failing many times never give up on succeeding no matter how impossible the odds appear to be.

“Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering its a feather bed”

Terence Mckenna

Through my work as a shaman living in a modern world I have found my soul and my connection to the Whole. I now see that there is nowhere I end and you begin, and that truly we are united and each one of us a part of the same greater system. I have accepted my dark side and in doing so gained the light to transform into something new. I feel Whole and so I have healed the pain that comes with no longer feeling one with universal life force.

“The shaman is not merely a sick man, or a madman; he is a sick man who has healed himself.

Terence Mckenna

It is now time to bring back the teachings of the shaman into society and integrate it within our modern holistic approach to Life. It is time to adopt a sensible approach to these mind altering substances to make sure they get into the right hands and not like they do now and into the wrong ones. When used properly they can bring great advancements in many fields and enhance the creative talents of those who use them. They can also help some of those who have been most lost in the darkness come back into the light.

“Taking LSD was a profound experience, one of the most important things in my life. LSD shows you that there’s another side to the coin, and you can’t remember it when it wears off, but you know it. It reinforced my sense of what was important—creating great things instead of making money, putting things back into the stream of history and of human consciousness as much as I could.”

― Steve Jobs

As the day breaks (as we have seen building already) many more people will grow to enjoy meditation, yoga, Pilates, mindfulness etc and this will naturally align people more with their spiritual natures. As we align with The Voice Of Light we gain much more awareness and move towards lifestyle’s that help us to integrate our mind, body and spirits working together in harmony.

We move slower yet with more purpose as our collective goals become clear in the light of day. With the light there is an end to the confusion of the darknes. As the light hits our eyes and the love fills our heart we shall know that the night has come to an end and morning has broken.
